Weekly Newsletter 12/12/14

Thanks to those who came out for the Injury Prevention seminar this past week. The notes were distributed – please feel free to contact Jared or RJ if you have questions. Group exercise activities continue to go strong! We’ve got yoga at Devotion Yoga on Sundays at 2pm and Tuesdays at 8pm. Please sign up on the Doodle Poll – http://doodle.com/gw7qv89gnd58scn5sgkics8f/admin#table

Tuesday morning run workouts have moved from the track to hill repeats at Stevens. We meet at Castle Gate on the Stevens campus (end of 6th St or top of the stairs from Sinatra) at 6am. Don’t miss this opportunity to get stronger.

There are still some folks riding outdoors. I heard from 2 of our ride leaders (Jared and Lisa) that they will likely be riding this weekend. Both stated that they would be doing later start times and would also be departing from Palisades Park as to not deal with the holiday traffic on River Road (which is a great idea). Please reach out to them if you are interested in joining.

NYC Marathon provided another inspiring day for GCTri as we saw outstanding support and camaraderie from our members not racing, and great determination and effort from our members who did race. Congratulations to our 2014 NYC Marathon finishers – Meredith Ryan (4:41), Deb Noble (4:42), Anthony Desantis (4:18), Jenny Zarzuela (5:00), Eva Kovacs (4:50), Howard Miller (5:14).

We have an awesome Education Series Program coming up next Saturday 11/15 @ 12pm at the Weehawken Track. Carlos Garcia is having a Running Clinic for us. He will speak about being more mechanically efficient, show you how to improve your form and provide you with drill work to reinforce the form corrections. You won’t want to miss this.

If you haven’t followed along on FB, Jared has negotiated for us to do group yoga sessions at Devotion Yoga on Hudson Place. We are currently looking for into the following options: A) Tuesday @8pm for up to 17people B) Thursday @8pm for up to 17people C) Saturday or Sunday after 2pm for up to 35 people. Stay tuned for which sessions we end up scheduling.

Weekend rides: Seems like we are thoroughly enjoying the off-season. Unfortunately, our ride leaders haven’t posted any rides for this weekend. It seems like Nicole may ride on Saturday (but a late morning start) and Kristine is looking to ride on Sunday. Follow along on FB as things develop. Remember, everyone can post a workout on the club calendar.

Happy Halloween to all our members! Congrats to Gabe Rasure for completing her first HIM at IRONMAN Miami 70.3 (6:59), to Diane Berry at the Perfect 10 – (1:42) and to Lauren Karstens at Run the Pines for Canines 5k – (22:25, 2nd female OA). Good luck to our teammates racing NYC Marathon. Seems like there will be plenty of GCTri support out there for you! Hope you have a blast and soak in all that NYC energy.

Fit Kits – have you figured out your sizes for the team tri kits and cycling gear yet? Time is limited so get over to Fleet Feet of Hoboken ASAP before the fit kit is gone! Jen will be sending the fit kit back to Hincapie on Monday so you really need to get over there this weekend to try stuff on.

How’s your running form look? If you are often injured, find yourself to be slow and inefficient, then you should come to the running clinic on Saturday 11/15 that Carlos Garcia is putting on. Why not work on your flaws in the offseason to set yourself up for success next year.

Weekend rides: with rain predicted tomorrow and the NYC marathon on Sunday, no rides have been planned. Remember, everyone can post on the club calendar or on the FB group. If you are one of those folks that doesn’t like riding in the cold, see if you can get a group run together.
