Thursday Morning Ride

Andre will be leading a group ride departing from 14th st ferry at 540am sharp.  Sun rises at 643am so please bring lights.  The morning temperature looks pleasant at about 51 degrees.  Please remember to keep the below guidelines in mind when riding in a group (GCTri’s or any group).

To avoid most crashes, these simple rules need to be followed on all group rides.  Anybody that is found repeatedly not abiding by these rules will be removed from any GC Tri group ride:

1.     Stay alert at all times.  Look around – it is natural to stare at the wheel directly in front of you. Be sure to look ahead so that you can respond to any issues on the road or issues that may start ahead of you in a pace line.|
2.     Follow the rules of the road.  Do not run red lights or stop signs!
3.     Lights until it is light enough at the start of our rides.
4.     Announce if an intersection is clear before going through it.
5.     Ride Single File when any traffic is nearby (specifically on River Rd.).
6.     Hold your line; do not move from side to side.
7.     Don’t overlap wheels; ensure your front wheel is never beside someone’s rear wheel.
8.     Don’t look back!
9.     Beware of pot holes in the road and announce them to the riders behind you.
10.  Don’t brake unless absolutely necessary.  If you need to brake, it is best to tether your front brakes and do not slam you rear break.  If you need to slow down to stop, move to the outside of the group.
11.  Pass carefully on the left and announce before you do so.  NEVER pass on the right.
12.  When riding in a pace-line move through at a steady pace and make sure you are clear of the front rider before pulling off.  When on the front of the pace-line, keep the groups pace and do not surge your speed.
13. When in a pace-line, do NOT ride in the aero position.

Happy Training,

Safe Riding.

Weekly Newsletter/Weekend Ride

Hello All,
Spring is around the corner and starting April 5th, we will begin our Thursday morning group rides once again.  The ride starts at 5:40 AM sharp and leaves from the 14th St Ferry in Hoboken.  We ride up River Rd and into Palisades Park and then race it home!  These are our most popular rides so don’t be afraid to join them no matter what pace you’re going.
We will also be switching the track workouts to Tuesday mornings starting April 3rd to coincide with Hoboken Masters switching to Mon/Wed/Fri morning workouts.
This weekend Andrew C will be leading a group ride on Saturday leaving the 14th St Ferry at 8:00 AM.  On Sunday Kristine and Lauren will be leading the ride leaving the 14th St Ferry at 9:30 AM so you can sleep in a little after your St Patty’s celebrations.
If you haven’t sent in your GC Tri Registration for 2012, please mail it to 358 6th St Apt 1L Hoboken, NJ 07030 or leave it for Andrew Shore at the Stevens Pool.

Thanks to Cooper’s Union for taking care of GC Tri so well last night and offering the whole gang a shot of the “Triathlete Maker!”  This weekend Lauren and Kristine will be leading the group ride on Sunday leaving the 14th St Ferry at 9:30 AM.  Cure Saturday’s hangover by getting in some miles out on the open road!
Start Tri and Mickey Cassu have gotten GC Tri some great discounts to the Bassman Triathlon on May 6th and the Jerseyman on May 19th.  Please contact him directly at mickey@start-tri.com and let him know you are a GC Tri member to get the discounted rate.
Also, GC Tri has gotten together one team for the River to Sea Relay (http://oymp.net/r2c/R2C17Welcome.pdf) and is looking to create a second.  If you are interested, please contact Nicci at and she will coordinate with you.

Hi All,

This weekend there will be no official group rides or runs due to the expected chilly temps and weather. Please post to the Facebook and/or Yahoo group if you plan on going out and would like some friends.

GC Tri will be ordering official racing kits as well as cycling jerseys for the upcoming season. We would like to make the order by the end of next week so that we can get everything in before the first races of the season this May. The following link is to the sizing chart as provided by Sugoi: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KMpJ5ujLFV1pXR_C-qfo9QSS16JibSYjQraocCK0BYc/edit.

This link will take you to the order form so that you can select what you want and which size. Please fill this out as soon as possible so we can get our order in: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFdpd2ZfRFcxa0VCXzZ2QmZNYjltQWc6MQ. Attached is an image of what the race kits look like.

Finally, we still have 3 GC Tri visors and 10 headsweat hats left at $20 each. There is also about 20 more beanies (darn good in this cold weather) left at $15 each. Please email if you are interested.
