Weekly Newsletter 8/15/14

Congrats to our competitors last weekend. At Staten Island Duathlon – John Palmer (1:05, 2nd AG); Staten Island Triathlon – Juan Carlos Buenano (1:07, 4th AG). Good luck to those racing IRONMAN Timberman 70.3, IRONMAN Sweden, IRONMAN Mont Tremblant, Tri the Wildwoods and Ramapo Rally. This summer we’ve added a bunch of new members! We would like to welcome: Darla Mercado Coyle, Gabrielle Rasure, Bri-Ann Ladowski, Eric Prendergast, Dana Ushler, Vladimir Penaloza, Jamie Moreng, Lauren Karstens, Mike Menter, John Palmer, Tara Barlow, Caron Claes and Meredith Rodriguez. Sorry if I missed anyone. We hope to see you at the club workouts and socials.

The August social will be held on Thursday the 28th at 7:30pm at Pier 13. Stop by and meet some of the club members when they aren’t sweating and wearing spandex.

Tuesday track workouts continue to be wildly successful. If you want to get fast, you really should join us. Thursday bike hill repeats are also going strong. With a later sunrise, please be sure you have front and rear blinkers for safety. There will be a 50mi (Piermont) “A ride” on Saturday departing the 14th st ferry at 8am. Happy Training.

GCTri Takes 2nd Place in TriClub Challenge at IRONMAN 70.3 Timberman

GCTri strikes again!  The very talented crew of club members racing IRONMAN 70.3 Timberman earned another team podium finish in the TriClub challenge.  The team took 2nd place competing in Division III (teams with 100-150 members) of the IRONMAN TriClub Challenge.  Congratulations on your hard work!  You really make us proud!

Weekly News Update 8/23

GCTri rocked the racing circuit again last week!  Congrats to all of our team members who raced:  At the West Point Triathlon Kevin Portmann took 2nd Overall; at War at the Shore short course we had: Glenn Hartrick 1st OA (51:00), Dave Calabrese (1st AG, 56:00), Nicole Ogrosso (2nd OA female, 1:00), Brad Roberts (3rd AG, 1:04), Lauren Wiest (1st AG, 1:05), Roberto Scarpati (2nd Div, 1:08), Kristen Mulgrew (2nd AG, 1:10), Sara Press (4th AG, 1:14), Jenny Zarzuela (2nd Div, 1:26); at War at the Shore Long Course we had: Raphael Zagury (5th OA, 2nd AG – 1:39), Mike Satz (4th AG, 1:44); at Timberman Sprint, Dave Cruz took 4th OA, 1st AG- 1:07); at IRONMAN Timberman 70.3 we had: Cristian Gonzalez (4:34 – earning  a spot at 70.3 World Championships), Carsten Hansen (4:53), RJ Boergers (5:15), Derek Barnes (5:24), Jared Manks (5:29), Jim Englert (5:42), Nicci Schock (5:45),  Lisa Mangino (6:11), Rebecca Gauthier (6:40). Weekly News Update 8/16

It was another great weekend of racing for GCTri members.  Congratulations to our team members who competed at Age Group Nationals – Olympic distance: Nicole Ogrosso (2:29), Gabby Czernik (2:21) & Jamie Brabston (2:22).  Congrats to our other racers: At the Presidential Lakes Olympic Triathlon we had Joe Borghoff (2:48); Dave Pietrangelo took 3rd Overall (1:00) at the Staten Island Triathlon.  Congratulations to Jersey City Mayor and GCTri member Steve Fulop for winning the Belmar Chase Celebrity 5K.  By winning the race, Fulop earned $2,500 for the Jersey City Recreation Department.  Remember to keep sharing your results with us on the website –  http://www.gctri.org/race-results/submit-results/
