Weekly News Update 10/18

Amazing job by Matt Bach (9:59) and Mark Tsigounis (11:21) at IRONMAN World Championships at Kona!  Jenny Zarzuela competed at the Women’s Perfect Ten (1:42); At Steamtown Marathon Nicci Schock PR’d (3:46), Andrew Corcione (3:55); At Rev3 Half-Full Dave Cruz crushed it (2nd OA – 4:23).  Great efforts all!

Goodbye and good luck to our weekday ride leader – Andre Preotesa (he’s moving to the suburbs).  With Andre’s departure we are in desperate need of a weekday ride leader for next year (typically April through September).  At a minimum we plan on offering 1 morning ride but the past couple years we were fortunate to have Tuesday and Thursday morning rides.  Let the BOD know if you’d like to get more involved.

We are having the October Club social tomorrow (Saturday) at 4pm at Moran’s Pub in Hoboken.  Stop by and enjoy the good company of fellow club members without the spandex.

On Saturday Andrew Corcione and Mike Haskell are leading a ride to State Line departing the 14th st. pier at 8am (it will be at a friendly pace).  On Sunday, John Argueta will be riding to state line – departure time TBD – keep an eye on facebook and club calendar.

Weekly News Update 10/11

Best wishes to Matt Bach and Mark Tsigounis competing at IRONMAN World Championships in Kona!  All of us at GCTri are so proud of you.  These guys will be starting the swim at 7am Hawaii time which is 1pm EST for those of you that are as excited as me for following them on IRONMAN tracker.

Do you struggle when it comes to changing a tire on your bike?  Do you know how to perform routine bike maintenance?    If not, stop by the bike clinic on Saturday.  We are taking an easy ride to state line which will leave the 14th st. pier at 8:30am and then we will be meeting up at Haskell’s garage for the clinic which will start at 11:30am.  Come by and learn a thing or two from our resident bike geek Mike Haskell.

Keep an eye on the club calendar and Facebook group to see if a ride gets added for Sunday.  Also, it looks like Pete Cancila is looking for company on a long ride to Bear Mountain on Saturday at 6am – join him for part of the ride or the whole thing.

Weekly News Update 10/4

Congrats to our team members who raced last weekend.  We had Dave Doherty (4:47) at Montauk Mighty Man; and Danielle Rossi (3:52) at Westchester. Great job!

This weekend we have a couple options for group rides.  On Saturday, Mike Satz will be departing at 7:30am for State Line.  Also on Saturday, Kristine Papamichael will be departing at 9:00am for Piermont or Nyack.  Keep an eye on the club calendar to see if a ride gets added for Sunday.

Did you know about the bike maintenance clinic on Saturday 10/12 at 11:30am?  We will head out that morning for a short ride and then come back for the clinic.  Please sign up on the club calendar and let us know if you are coming!  We may even stream IRONMAN Kona in hopes of catching a glimpse of Matt Bach or Mark Tsigounis.

Important upcoming events: October 19th – Club social @ 4 pm – location TBD; November 9th – Club social (this will be a planning meeting – let us know if you would like to run for a leadership position for 2014); December 6th – Club Holiday Party at Northern Soul bar.

Weekly News Update 9/27

In late season races, GCTri is still dominating!  At the Great Six Flags Triathlon we had some awesome finishes: Olympic – Dave Calabrese (10 OA, 2nd AG – 2:23), Mike Satz (3rd AG – 2:28), Brian Wiest (2nd AG – 2:30), Mark Tsigounis (4th AG – 2:35).  Sprint distance – Lauren Wiest (3rd OA Female – 1:33).  Congrats on an awesome race.  Hope you enjoyed some post- race roller coasters.

Good luck to our team members racing Westchester Triathlon this weekend.

On Saturday, Mike Haskell is leading a “Muffin Ride” to the Runcible Spoon in Nyack that will depart the 14th st. pier at 8:30am.  This will be approximately 50mi round trip at an easy pace and no cyclist will be dropped.  The Tuesday morning track workouts will continue at least up to the NYC Marathon.  Happy Training.
