Weekly Newsletter

Hello All,

At Ironman Mont Tremblant, GC Tri welcomed Frank Virga to the Ironman family finishing in 12:40.  Eva Kovacs also finished her 20th, yes 20th Ironman up there in 13:48.  At the West Point triathlon Kevin Portman won his age group and took 10th overall.

At the USAT Nationals Sprint, Glenn Hartrick took 4th in his age group, while Jamie Brabston and Nicole Ogrosso took top 10s in their age groups as well.  Carlos Garcia also had a fine performance.  At the Olympic distance Jen Finotti, Melissa Manning, Kristine Papamichael, Gabby Czernik and Erica Manning all had great races!

At Timberman 70.3, we had a large group with the GC Tri Banner Flying high.  Rich Bean qualified for 70.3 Worlds in his first ever 70.3.  Scott Burns and Maria Wedgeworth also finished their first 70.3, Kristin Hespos got a PR by over 20 minutes for the course and Nicci Schock had another solid performance.

This weekend Mike H will be leading a group ride leaving the 14th St Ferry on Saturday at 7:00 AM.  He’s taking a long easy ride up to Bear Mountain if you are looking to long and have some company.  Don’t worry if you don’t want to ride that far, you can start with the group and turn around at any point.

Happy Training

Tuesday and Thursday Ride

Tuesday 5:40am ride out of 14th Street ferry in Hoboken. I will stay in my pajamas if it is raining since it might thunderstorm. By 5:50 it will be illuminated enough outside to not be considered night time, but you’ll still need some sort of lights (front white and rear red recommended). Sunrise is squarely when we do hill repeats at 6:18am. We’re back in Hoboken at 7am. Thursday same thing, but as of now no chance of rain!

I forgot when we ended the morning rides last year, but mornings become cold very quickly in September. I think we’ll keep going until at least the beginning of October.

As far as sunrises go, here some fun facts:
7/1 5:29am
8/1 5:53am
9/1 6:23am
10/1 6:53am

Hi All,
Congrats to Shana Lee for knocking over 3 minutes off her best time at the Jersey Girl triathlon last weekend.  At Born to Tri, we had a great showing as Glenn Hartrick too 4th overall and Andrew Shore took 6th overall.  JD Desloges made it a family affair racing with father for his first triathlon ever and we had Mike Frank returning from back surgery racing with his wife Tracey all having great races!
Wednesday Aug 6th, we will be having a GC Tri social meeting at Pier 13 at 7:30 PM for an adult beverage or two or three and a tan-line comparison contest.  Best tan-lines receives a firm pat on the back.
Happy Training,

There will be a gathering of triathletes this Wed

Tues/Thur Bike

Leaving from Hoboken Ferry at 540am.  It is a bit dark in the morning so you may want to bring a blinking light.  Ride of approx 20 miles, maybe some repeats, maybe not.  Get out there before it warms-up!

Tuesday/Thursday Ride

Tuesday and Thursday morning rides starting at 5:40 from Hoboken 14th street ferry into the park in Fort Lee with either hill repeats or ride to the first big hill and back. Back in Hoboken at 7am, ~20 mlies. I heard it’ll rain in the afternoons so we should be lucky to avoid the rain in the morning.
