Weekly Newsletter 10/17/14

Big ups to our Kona finishers: Jared Tootell (9:33), Carsten Hansen (10:53), Missy Manning (12:44)! Well done folks – we all aspire to be like you one day! Good luck to Lauren Kruk at the Runners World Half Marathon this weekend.

Save the dates: the November social will be on 11/15 in the afternoon (place to be determined). The Annual Holiday Bash will be on Friday December 5th (location to be determined still).

The off-season is the perfect time to work on your deficiencies. If your run can use some work, you will only benefit from the Run Clinic that Carlos Garcia will be having on Saturday 11/15 at Noon (we will go to the social after). Carlos will speak about drills that can help you, will help you find out flaws in your form, and will talk about planning your weekly runs. Please check that you will be attending on the club calendar if you plan on attending so we can adequately prepare.

Weekend rides: On Saturday we have the Tour de Defiant Brewery. The group will depart at 10am for our 30mi ride up to our delicious destination. Please see Lisa Mangino’s emails for full details. For those that can’t make the Brewery ride, John Palmer and Carlos Garcia are riding to State line and will leave at 7:30am on Saturday.

Weekly Newsletter 10/10/14

It’s Kona weekend…and we’ve got some folks for you to follow! On Saturday, have fun tracking Carsten Hansen and GCTri alumni Missy Manning and Jared Tootel at the IRONMAN World Championships.

Congrats to Lauren Karstens (1:41, 2nd AG, new PR) for a great race last weekend at Jersey Shore Half Marathon. Good luck to those racing Steamtown Marathon and Staten Island Half Marathon.

Great news! We’ve re-scheduled the Tour de Defiant Brewery for Saturday 10/18. The trip will depart the 14th St. ferry pier at 10am. Lets hope we get nice weather so we can go and enjoy it!

Are you interested in ordering awesome GCTri race kits and cycling gear? Jen has ordered the Hincapie fit kit so that you can find out your appropriate sizes. Stay tuned for information pertaining to the arrival of the fit kit. We typically get it for a 1 week period and our sponsor Fleet Feet is kind enough to hold it at their Hoboken store. Simply stop in during their business hours, try stuff on and mark down your sizes. Jen will open the Hincapie ordering portal shortly thereafter. We do need to meet certain minimums so please order if you are interested.

Weekend rides: On Saturday, Raphael is leading an A+ ride leaving the 14th st. ferry pier at 7am. Nicole is leading a B ride to state line (~40mi) that departs the 14th st. ferry pier at 8:30am. Saturday looks like rain, so perhaps these will get switched to Sunday. Monday is Columbus Day and some folks may have off so please organize other rides on FB and the club calendar.

Weekly News Update 10/18

Amazing job by Matt Bach (9:59) and Mark Tsigounis (11:21) at IRONMAN World Championships at Kona!  Jenny Zarzuela competed at the Women’s Perfect Ten (1:42); At Steamtown Marathon Nicci Schock PR’d (3:46), Andrew Corcione (3:55); At Rev3 Half-Full Dave Cruz crushed it (2nd OA – 4:23).  Great efforts all!

Goodbye and good luck to our weekday ride leader – Andre Preotesa (he’s moving to the suburbs).  With Andre’s departure we are in desperate need of a weekday ride leader for next year (typically April through September).  At a minimum we plan on offering 1 morning ride but the past couple years we were fortunate to have Tuesday and Thursday morning rides.  Let the BOD know if you’d like to get more involved.

We are having the October Club social tomorrow (Saturday) at 4pm at Moran’s Pub in Hoboken.  Stop by and enjoy the good company of fellow club members without the spandex.

On Saturday Andrew Corcione and Mike Haskell are leading a ride to State Line departing the 14th st. pier at 8am (it will be at a friendly pace).  On Sunday, John Argueta will be riding to state line – departure time TBD – keep an eye on facebook and club calendar.

Weekly Update 8/30

GCTri extends a warm welcome to our newest members: Emily Latimer, Kristen Mulgrew, Patrick Hammond, & Eric Boden. We hope to see you out at the group workouts, socials and races soon!

We had some incredible performances by GCTri club members this past weekend.  Huge congrats to Matt Bach for qualifying for IRONMAN World Championships in Kona with his 1st AG performance (9:42) at IRONMAN Louisville.  We also had:  At  IRONMAN Canada: Glenn Hartrick (10:06), Rev3 Maine: Mike D’Imperio (6:01), Park City Mossman Olympic: Mike Frank (2:24), TriRock Asbury Park: Nicole Ogrosso (1:01 – 1st OA Female), Jenny Zarzuela & Heather Cameron teamed up in the relay (1:10 – 3rd Relay), Carlos Buenano (1:10), John Argueta (1:23), Danielle Rossi (1:34).

Good luck to our team members racing Lake George Triathlon and any other races this weekend.  Have a blast, and race fast!

It’s the holiday weekend so many of our ride leaders are away.  We have a couple of individuals considering leading rides on Monday.  Keep an eye on the club Facebook page or the club calendar on the website for ride options.  Also, for your safety, we are mandating that you have blinking lights for the weekday morning rides.  Happy Training!
