Weekly Newsletter 3/21/14

Congratulations to our team members who competed at NYC Half Marathon: Lauren Kruk (1:45), Heather Cameron (1:58), Brian Perry (1:29), Lisa Mangino (2:07), Steve Rosselli (1:36), & Carlos Buenano. Remember, please post your results on the website after you race –  http://www.gctri.org/race-results/submit-results/

Today is the last day to take advantage of our team discount code from RoadID.  We strongly encourage you to purchase one for a little added safety while you train.  The discount code can be found in the members only section of the website – http://www.gctri.org/members-2/club-discounts/

Tomorrow (Saturday 3/22) we have some great club events planned.  At 4pm at Symposia Community Bookstore, the Athlete Education Committee will be hosting a Gear Clinic.  Stop by to know what you need to have for the upcoming race season.  Around 5 or 5:30pm (after the gear clinic), we will be heading over to Moran’s for the March Social.  Come by and meet some of our tri members when they aren’t in spandex.

There are no official club rides planned for this weekend.  Please feel free to use the Facebook group to get some people together if you want to get outside and ride.  Keep a close watch on the club calendar because the Track Workouts are scheduled to start next Tuesday.  We hope you can join us for some training sessions.

Are you itching to get outside and ride?  This weekend Mike Haskell is planning a muffin ride to the Runcible Spoon on Sunday which will depart the 14th St. Pier at 9am.  Keep your eyes on the facebook site because it may change to Saturday depending on the weather forecast.

We’ve got some great things coming up that you’ll want to get on your calendar!  On Saturday 3/22 we will be having a “Gear Clinic” at Symposia Bookstore in Hoboken.  If you are unsure of what you need for a first race or you’ve been considering going high tech, you won’t want to miss this panel discussion led by some of our gear heads.  Immediately following the clinic, we will be having the social over at Moran’s.  Our hard working Athlete Education Committee is also planning a bike handling/tire changing clinic for early April so that you’ll be ready to hit the roads as the spring weather approaches.

The first annual Fun Race has been scheduled for the weekend of April 12th thanks to our Social Committee with the help of Kelly Calabrese.  GCTri members will be broken into teams and will be running, drinking and doing other physically and mentally challenging activities.  Think of the Amazing Race but with some GCTri style and triathlete flair.  It’s going to be awesome.

Reminder that you have 1 more week to use our club coupon code for the purchase of a RoadID.  All members are encouraged to have one for riding. Visit the members only page on the website for the discount code.

Good luck to Heather Cameron, Lisa Mangino and Juan Buenano and any other team members racing the NYC Half Marathon this weekend.  If you have upcoming races, please get them on the calendar so we know you’re racing!

It’s time to get social!  We are meeting on Saturday 2/22 at Moran’s @ 4pm to enjoy some beverages and the company of good friends.  We will have the GCTri water bottles for you to pick up as well as other club merchandise for purchase.  On special clearance we have the Sugoi tri shorts with the old logo and color scheme for $20 (not a bad thing to have as extra training shorts).

Speaking of merchandise, have you seen the new co-branded gear from IRONMAN?  If you’re interested you have until March 7th to place your order.  Visit: http://ironmanstore.com/tri-clubs.html

Have you signed up for the New Jersey State Triathlon yet?  The olympic distance race is almost sold out so register soon.  One thing that’s new this year is the club will have our own port-a-potty; I’m sure that’s a relief for some of you.

Thanks for your participation in the club survey.  The committee chairs are hard at work analyzing the data to help plan the year.  In fact, you may be hearing from Nicole Ogrosso regarding the mentor program in the near future.  If you haven’t already taken the survey, kindly visit the attached hyperlink https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1QUk2714QtnqcWXo5m8ZasDUKNyrn_XS5Y_7nysHgaFU/viewform

Good luck to our GCTri members Mike Guglielmo and Andrew Corcione racing the FebApple 50 Trail Series 20 miler this weekend.  Please remember to update your race results on the club website!

Happy Valentine’s Day!  Only 34 more days until Spring and then hopefully all this snow will be gone and we will be hitting the training hard (keep the sunshine in your hearts).

I’ve reached out to our typical ride leaders to see if anyone would be riding this weekend, but it seems like most people will be riding indoors despite the fact that the weather looks pretty good.  If you’re looking for ride partners feel free to post a ride on the club calendar or FB group and see who shows up.

Mark your calendars – the February social is scheduled for Saturday February 22nd at 4pm at Moran’s.  Please RSVP on the club calendar or the FB group.  We are hoping to offer the first presentation of the Athlete Education Series in February.  Please keep an eye out for upcoming information.

Lastly, we encourage you to pay your 2014 membership dues before your account expires.  This can be done on the website.
