NYC Half 2015

Weekly Newsletter 11/28/14

I believe we finally can call this 2014 season a wrap now that the Philly Marathon is in the books. Check out the awesome results from our members: Philly Marathon: Matt Bach (2:42), Lauren Kruk (3:37), Joe Giattino (3:23), Ali Twarowski (4:09), Derek Barnes (3:38), Brian Perry (3:00), Steve Ostrander (4:22). Philly ½ Marathon: Diane Berry (2:14).

Please vote for the 2015 BOD. As per our bylaws we need at least 10% participation from our members to have an official election. https://docs.google.com/…/1MfyQTG02P6GFT2HbcZNZzpH…/viewform

It’s time to celebrate our fantastic 2015 triathlon season! We had some amazing team and individual results that we can all be proud of. Come celebrate with the group at the annual Holiday Party at Northern Soul on Friday December 5th at 7:30. This is a pot luck event so please let us know what you’ll be bringing. https://docs.google.com/…/1UyPcSJoeVLGFQre_fFIQl4wgEx…/edit…

Group workouts are still going through the winter. Please note that the Tuesday morning Track workouts are switching to Hill workouts. It is likely we will be meeting at Castle Gate at Stevens (off 6th st) for the first few weeks of hill workouts. We’ve also arranged for group yoga at Devotion Yoga. Please see the doodle and add when you will be attending. Don’t be afraid to have a friend or significant other who is not in the club sign up to come along as well (we need full classes for a better price). https://doodle.com/gw7qv89gnd58scn5sgkics8f/admin#table

Weekly Newsletter 10/31/14

Happy Halloween to all our members! Congrats to Gabe Rasure for completing her first HIM at IRONMAN Miami 70.3 (6:59), to Diane Berry at the Perfect 10 – (1:42) and to Lauren Karstens at Run the Pines for Canines 5k – (22:25, 2nd female OA). Good luck to our teammates racing NYC Marathon. Seems like there will be plenty of GCTri support out there for you! Hope you have a blast and soak in all that NYC energy.

Fit Kits – have you figured out your sizes for the team tri kits and cycling gear yet? Time is limited so get over to Fleet Feet of Hoboken ASAP before the fit kit is gone! Jen will be sending the fit kit back to Hincapie on Monday so you really need to get over there this weekend to try stuff on.

How’s your running form look? If you are often injured, find yourself to be slow and inefficient, then you should come to the running clinic on Saturday 11/15 that Carlos Garcia is putting on. Why not work on your flaws in the offseason to set yourself up for success next year.

Weekend rides: with rain predicted tomorrow and the NYC marathon on Sunday, no rides have been planned. Remember, everyone can post on the club calendar or on the FB group. If you are one of those folks that doesn’t like riding in the cold, see if you can get a group run together.

It’s Kona weekend…and we’ve got some folks for you to follow! On Saturday, have fun tracking Carsten Hansen and GCTri alumni Missy Manning and Jared Tootel at the IRONMAN World Championships.

Congrats to Lauren Karstens (1:41, 2nd AG, new PR) for a great race last weekend at Jersey Shore Half Marathon. Good luck to those racing Steamtown Marathon and Staten Island Half Marathon.

Great news! We’ve re-scheduled the Tour de Defiant Brewery for Saturday 10/18. The trip will depart the 14th St. ferry pier at 10am. Lets hope we get nice weather so we can go and enjoy it!

Are you interested in ordering awesome GCTri race kits and cycling gear? Jen has ordered the Hincapie fit kit so that you can find out your appropriate sizes. Stay tuned for information pertaining to the arrival of the fit kit. We typically get it for a 1 week period and our sponsor Fleet Feet is kind enough to hold it at their Hoboken store. Simply stop in during their business hours, try stuff on and mark down your sizes. Jen will open the Hincapie ordering portal shortly thereafter. We do need to meet certain minimums so please order if you are interested.

Weekend rides: On Saturday, Raphael is leading an A+ ride leaving the 14th st. ferry pier at 7am. Nicole is leading a B ride to state line (~40mi) that departs the 14th st. ferry pier at 8:30am. Saturday looks like rain, so perhaps these will get switched to Sunday. Monday is Columbus Day and some folks may have off so please organize other rides on FB and the club calendar.

Weekly Newsletter 9/19/14

It’s hard not to Tri harder when we’ve got so many teammates accomplishing big things! Congrats to Eva Kovacs who completed her 24th Iron distance race at Challenge Weymouth taking 3rd AG…you continue to amaze us. Congrats to Michael Zadroga for his finish at One More Tri (1:08), and to Derek Barens for his finish at Queens Half Marathon (1:35). Good luck to our teammates racing Little Red Lighthouse Swim, Newport Jersey City Half Marathon, IRONMAN Maryland and IRONMAN Princeton 70.3.

We’ve got 2 really cool events coming up that you will want to add to your calendar. On Saturday 10/4 we will be riding up to Defiant Brewery for a little bike and brew. Thankfully we can take the NJ Transit trains home. Also, we just added a special event at Fit Werx bike shop and fit studio on Thursday October 9th at 7:30PM. If you plan on attending, you must RSVP (either on the FB invite or the club calendar) so we get an accurate head count.

For rides this weekend: on Saturday, RJ will be leading a 45mi A/B ride to Piermont departing the 14th St. Pier at 8am. Perhaps we will grab a muffin at Bunburry’s or the Filliing Station. I’d like to remind all members that everyone has the ability to add a ride to the calendar. If you aren’t happy with the ride selection, please post your ride on the club calendar or on FB and I’m sure you’ll get some company out on the ride. Happy training!
